free verse by Connie J. Jasperson
She lingers on the brink of night
Hanging above the rim of the starlit sky
Fearing the oblivion of the sun’s dark light
One small step, one small leap of faith
Love hangs, suspended, longing
A mystery deeper than death
Brighter than all the starry gulf above
Trusting, giving up all she is
Falling, falling, to sun’s fiery light
That washes away the stars, and veils the moon
Who, in surrendering to love
Must lose all sense of self.
